Korean Gradient lips seem to be all the rave right now..The trend seems to continue to thrive due to many Korean celebrities still sporting them in k-dramas and such. I don't use lip gloss or lip stick on a daily basis. For every day wear I love to wear a long lasting stain/tint because it's convenient and I won't have to do any precise touch ups like I would with a lipstick. Plus it's super low maintenance and easy as 1,2 3 ^^ My latest favourites have been... not Korean ones but ...YSL's Rouge Per Couture Vernes A Levres' Glossy Stains!
Step 1: Apply lip balm and lightly cover your lips with a moisturizing concealer to tone down any natural pigment
Step 2: Apply the lip stain in the inner 1/3 of your lips. Apply the most concentration on the center of the inner lips
Step 3: Pat first for your lips to soak in the color. Then blend any harsh edges
Step 4: Complete! (Do touch ups if necessary)
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres' Glossy Stain. This is such a mouthful, complicated and since I don't speak french I just call it.... YSL Lip Stain! LOL. Anyways, these are ideal for that Korean Gradien/Ombre Lips effect because unlike most Lip Tints, these Stains are glossy and very moisturizing. You won't have to reapply throughout the day because your lips get dried and cracked. I've noticed that these are also waterproof and lasts for a good 4-5 hours without reapplying. Also, once they start to fade, there will be a beautiful, natural color stain left on your lips!
09 Rouge Laque
"Rouge Laque" is a bright red with cool undertones. It looks warm on the applicator but once applied, you will realize it's a bit more on the pinker side than orange. If you had to compare this color to Korean lip tints, I would say it comes pretty close to Peripera's "Cherry Red" lip tint.
08 Orange De Chine
This is a bright Orangey-Red Lip Tint. I could definitely see a lot of Kroean girls sporting this one. For bright lips, Koreans tend to go with redish-orange colors. I think this would look sooo pretty on girls with fair complexion. Think of MAC's "Korean Candy" and you would probably come close color wise.
29 Rose Fourreau
A toned down mod pink color. I kinda feel like it's a "your lip color but better" concept. Gives just enough color to your natural pigment. I would say it's a bit more conservative than the other colors. This would be practical if you are going for a very natural "omg i have no makeup on!" look haha. However, I actually wasn't too fond of this one because if I wanted this color effect, I can just use lip gloss. However, I do love the formula of these lip stains and I would probably continue to wear this for the longevity of the product.
Left to Right: 09 Rouge Laque, 08 Orange De Chine , 29 Rose Fourreau
29 Rose Fourreau
Blended and ombred. Sheered out gradient effect. (Note: True pigment color is in the liner section of the lips. Outer color is mostly my natural lip pigment w/ concealer)
08 Orange De
Blended and ombred. Sheered out gradient effect. (Note: True pigment color is in the liner section of the lips. Outer color is mostly my natural lip pigment w/ concealer)
09 Rouge Laque
Blended and ombred. Sheered out gradient effect. (Note: True pigment color is in the liner section of the lips. Outer color is mostly my natural lip pigment w/ concealer)
Value: at $34.00/ea, these are not cheap. I got 3 which was over $110 w/ tax. The price however, is somehwat justified because of the quality and the longevity of the product. You don't have to reapply like you would with a lot of other lip products. Still it's a splurge compared to Korean roadshop lip tints from Etdue House or Peripera.
Final Grade: A+
(Quality wise... B- for value because i'm not a baller heuhhh ToT)
